January 2018 TBR

I'm in way over my head with this to be read list. I hardly ever read this many novels in one month, and remember that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is more than 700 pages. But! I don't have any plans at all in January (okay, yes I do, I have theater tickets to see Book of Mormon - but that's all). And I will do some readathons, whereas one is a 24-hour one. So, I'm hoping I'll get a lot of reading done.

First I'll start the month with #AYearAThon and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. More on this here.

Tyskland and Murder on the Orient Express is the two novels I will read for various book clubs this month. And they fulfill two more goals: one classic and one Norwegian adult novel.

I will read the new OwlCrate book when the box arrives, plus in order to deal with my OwlCrate backlog I will read The Upside of Unrequited.

Fuck verden is a Norwegian MG - which is also one of my monthly goals.

For keeping updated on the YA front, I'll read The Hazel Wood and Let's Talk About Love. If I get them before the end of the month that is - the release dates are so close to February, they might be February reads.

If I manage all of these, I'll be one happy girl. And kinda proud. I'm terrible at sticking to these TBR's.

What's the next book you're going to read?

Goodreads goal completed!

Finally done with my 2018 Goodreads goal. 200 books read. Next year I will lower the goal a bit, in order to read more novels instead of picture books. Click here to see all the books I've read.

How did you do this year? How many books have you read?

Reading challenges 2018 - part 2

Even more reading challenges? Am I totally crazy? Well, yes.

On the more easier side I have a graphic novels/manga challenge. I used to have an A-Z title challenge, but it's getting too difficult to find any decent comics on some of the letters. So I'm abandoning this challenge after four successful years (one year I did a double challenge on this). This year, I'm going for a 52 weeks - 52 comics challenge. This will be more doable. I usually read a lot of graphic novels, so 52 in one year shouldn't be a problem.

When deciding not to do the A-Z title challenge on comics, I decided to switch it to novels instead. So yes, I will try to complete the (English) alphabet with novel titles this year. I have novels representing all but three letters, so this will be doable. If you know any good books starting with the letters Q, Y or Z, please let me know in the comments!

And, that's it for my 2018 reading challenges. Next up I will talk some about my reading goals. Because five challenges is not enough apparently. (The goals are more guidelines, to make me focus a bit on which books I choose to read.)

Do you have any exciting reading challenges this year? Let me know in the comments!

Reading challenges 2018 - part 1

As previously mentioned, I'm doing the #BeatTheBackList challenge this year, meaning I will read a lot of "older" (well, at least not 2018 titles) books. This is nothing new for me really, as most of my books are bought at flea markets or charity shops, and it's rare to find brand new titles.

Along with the aforementioned challenge, I will be doing a couple more older-books related ones:

This will be my second year doing the decade challenge, where I'll be reading one book for every decade after 1900.

This year I will be trying one more of these year-based challenges, that is the one-book-for-every-year-you've-been-alive challenge. One book for every year between 1984 to 2018. I will call this the Menenia challenge!

These are the challenges I will do related to older books in 2018. This means 44 books to be read. About four books a month. I don't know if this will be possible, but I hope so. I do have other things to read as well you know...

Have you any challenges of the likes of these? Let me know in the comments!

New Year's resolutions

I usually don't have any New Year's resolutions, but I will try some reading related ones this year.

My New Year's resolution is quite simple: read my own books rather than going to the library and make my reading piles even bigger.
I'm hoping to be able to read five books from my collection every month. This will be both books I already own, and those I acquire in 2018. 5 x 12 = 60 books in a year. That should make a small dent in my ever growing pile of books to be read.

I have some New Year's resolutions about thing reading-related that is not exactly reading. I will do a lot better with my blog this year, posting at least three times a week. And I will do giveaways  for my followers every three months, to show my appreciation. My bookstagram account should have at least one photo a day, and I will try making some booktube videos as well.

And I will be more social regarding books. I will start going to my local library for the book club they've got going. It's a monthly thing were they discuss a novel they've decided beforehand. I will also try this on Goodreads or Facebook. And I will in general be a more social book geek person - leveling up in my chatting skills.

What are your New Year's resolutions?

Christmas haul

I hope you're having the best Christmas ever with good food, love from friends and family and some nice quiet time for yourself to read a good book.

I'm having an awesome Christmas. Especially because my finances is under control, me and my boyfriend are at a good place, and I'm better than I've been in a long time. I'm celebrating Christmas at my parent's, with my entire family, my boyfriend and my best friend. We're doing what we always do when we get together: we're playing board games all the time. It's perfect! And I got so many great gifts yesterday, I'm feeling so spoiled.

My Christmas book haul.

Did you get any good books for Christmas? Let me know in the comments!

Beat the Backlist 2018

I'm joining this challenge the coming year. It's all about beating the backlist! Which means: read books prior to the year we're in. As of January 1st, that means all books from 2017 and earlier goes. You can find information on this challenge here.

I was sorted into this lovely group, which will win everything of course! We are the purple NovelKnights! (I was hoping for the green DeweyDragons, because Dewey (!) and dragons(!!), but it's okay, we will rock anyway!)

I have pledged to read 36 books in this challenge next year. All out of my own ever growing collection. That will make a nice dent in my TBR. I'll make a page with everything I read for this challenge later.

We even have our own group chat on Twitter, and a chat going on Goodreads. This will be a social and fun yearlong event!

Will you join my team? Or maybe you will try your luck for the DeweyDragons? Go sign up why don't you!

New releases

One thing I'll be doing in 2018 is trying to keep updated on new YA releases.

This means reading other blogs and hopefully find some book related news sites, or maybe even Youtube channels or podcasts talking about the best new releases in YA. Do you know any good ones I should start following? I need suggestions, as I'm drawing a blank on this...

Another way to accomplish this will be setting aside some money each month to pre-order some new releases. Yes, this means I will get my permission to order new books. This sounds like a great thing! Hah! I'm already almost sure which titles I will pre-order for January, but please, if you have suggestions - let me know in the comments below!

I have decided to allow myself to buy two books a month for this "project", plus continue my subscription for OwlCrate of course. This means three brand new releases each month. I should be able to cover the most important books like this. And of course I will read them and post a review ASAP.

January's most anticipated new releases.

What are your most anticipated new releases for January?

I'm going to do lots of changes on my blog, to make a new and better version for the new year. So, I'm going to remove all previous posts too, and it will look empty here for a while. FYI.

I will be back late this month, or maybe not before January 1st.

To come:
  • Giveaways! (!!!)
  • Yearly goals
  • Monthly goals
  • 2018 New Years resolutions
  • Videos
  • Reviews of brand new YA novels
  • And more fun!

Wish you all a very merry Christmas!
